bullet dodged
Things turned out wonderfully for me at the optometrist’s office. My vision is no worse than it was when I got my current prescription last year. This means that I don’t need new contact lenses or eyeglasses. This means I get to keep a few hundred dollars of my money in my pocket for at least the next year. And in case you contact wearers are wondering why I can go a year without spending money on lenses, it’s because I wear rigid gas permeable lenses (RGP’s). They are not hard. They are not totally inflexible. But they are more rigid than soft lenses, and if you take care of them properly, they are just like a pair of glasses, and they don’t have to be replaced any more often. I lucked into that cost-saver. My optometrist offered me a choice between these and the soft lenses waaaay back when I first started wearing them, but he suggested that the RGP’s would ultimately be better for my eyes. Turns out he was right, and they are better on my wallet, too. That’s really fortunate, too, because I am too cheap, too skeptical, and not inconvenienced enough by my nearsightedness and astigmatism to get surgery on my eyes for better vision. This is subject to change, but since money IS an object for the foreseeable future, I’m really glad I haven’t had to replace my prescription.
