over time over
As I explained before, I’ve been able to work up to 10 hours a day, every day of the week. The extra 10 hours I was working weekly resulted in a noticeable amount of increase in my pay which I have, of course, been saving.
Yeah, well, the party’s over. Effective immediately, the client is longer paying for any more than eight hours’ work in one day. That means I’m losing my overtime pay.
How do I feel about it? Shooot, I’m chillin. Here’s why:
I’ve been saving my posterior off. I’ve also been submitting resumes and talking to recruiters about my next position, since I don’t expect my project to last into next month. The overtime pay was nice, but I’m not entitled to it. The extra money was great, but I didn’t expect it to last anyway.
One of my co-workers was really disappointed to hear that we can only work 40 hours a week. My first thought: He was counting on the money. But when I asked him about it, he said that if he’d known our hours would be reduced, he would have taken advantage of more of the overtime. Hey, you never know what’s around the corner. I figure anyone’s best bet is to make the best of their time - go for the money, but also go for the quality of life. If I had it to do all over again, I’d still have worked the hours that I chose to work, because I needed every bit of rest, or quality time with loved ones, or vegging by the television. No regrets here.
