act against poverty

April 4, 2008

By the time Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in Memphis forty years ago today, the focus of his mission had expanded to include standing up against the persistence of poverty in our country, the wealthiest nation in the world.  As important as it was to fight racism in order to battle injustice and the violation of civil liberties and citizens’ rights, he understood that economic inequities were also a serious threat to America’s well being.

Please take a moment today in his memory to think about what you can do as an individual to contribute to the solution.

If you can, please go a step further, and commit yourself to action.
