I’m off to work on Wednesday!
This is where things get fun. I’ll be working, not as an employee, but through an employment agency, to help a law firm on one particular project. The precise duration of my time working there is unknown, but it will likely be several months in duration. I will be making more money than I’ve ever made working before - theoretically, if I were to work on this project for a year, I’d make 162% of what I made in my last position - but there’s a catch. Because I’m not an employee of the firm, I don’t get any of their benefits, and I will either have to get benefits through the agency or find them somewhere else on my own. I don’t know what my next opportunity will be, but because I will gain experience and contacts on this new position and continue to work, and since I don’t have any dependents, I’m not worried about that. This much I do know: My debt will be paid off by the end of February and my savings and retirement contributions will be on track. I’ve already figured out how to fill out my W-4 form so that I won’t pay too much in taxes. Next up is an evaluation of benefits. I’ll be sure to share my analysis here on The Hustle. Thanks to all for your encouragement and well wishes during my job search!
