a choice looms
Got an invitation to join a college friend and her husband at their first baby shower, and they are having twins!!! I would love to see her - she moved away not long after getting married, and I haven’t seen her since she moved. Thing is, the shower is two states away. And people generally bring presents that they’ve paid for to showers. And this isn’t a present for one kid - it’s a present for his brother, too. That means spending money on gas to get there and back, baby presents, gift wrap, incidental food… Yikes! If I had a job, I wouldn’t think twice about it. But I’m pushing my response all the way to the RSVP date, so I can weigh the decision of whether or not I should make this expense. My other option is to send presents from afar and visit later, after I’ve started working again…
