smelling one rose

November 12, 2007

I have been talking smack for years about getting out of this country to see other parts of the world, but you can’t do that very well with no passport, can you?

When my parents came up this past weekend, my dad gave me some money.  My first instinct was to put it on the old credit card debt.  But I thought about his advice to me about smelling the roses.  Then I thought about how I already have a plan for how to pay off the credit card debt.  And then I thought about how hard my dad works at a job he doesn’t even like to be able to make money.  I knew I’d have to do something that honored the spirit of what I know he’s given me that money for.  I have decided to use every cent for smelling the roses, and my first expenditure will be my passport fee.  I’ll take my pictures and submit the application I picked up last week before the end of this week.  Now, scheduling a trip is a whole different matter.  But when I’m ready to go - the passport will be taken care of, and it’ll be my key to the rest of the globe!  The money that’s left over will start my smelling the roses account - as it grows, maybe it’ll be the very fund I use to finance a trip abroad.
