shopping without shopping
One of the cool things about the internet is that you can look at all kinds of stuff without going anywhere. There’s no instant gratification when you browse things over the internet, like there is if you you’re browsing for something and decide to make an unplanned impulse purchase in a store, so I’m less tempted to pull one of those, "Well, since I’m here now, why don’t I just get it instead of having to come back," numbers. Since I was still on a break from money, I went browsing for slipcovers for my honey’s ugly couch online yesterday. I got to comparison shop, learn more about how to make an informed decision about my purchase, brainstorm for what I wanted for the couch, and all for free. Was I tempted to whip out the plastic and buy something online? Of course! But I didn’t, ‘cause that would mean I would have to do money math, and remember - I’m on break. This is a spending and counting moratorium. But at least now I know what I want and where to get it. And when I feel like coming up off my wallet, I’ll go directly there and get it so I can stop having to look at that ugggly couch.
