weekend trip

August 6, 2007

I couldn’t rent a car, ‘cause I couldn’t find a deal, so we hopped in the ride, which already had a full tank of gas (which was purchased in New Jersey).  We had to make a stop to rest in Delaware and get some $4 coffee (which I only drank because I needed to stay awake).  We slept at the folks’ house and went out with Grandma and some cousins in the a.m.  They chose the place, which as a $7.95 breakfast buffet.  Later, we had no particular plans… we hung out around the house until the cousins’ babysitter was on duty and then we just wandered, in that dry little town, looking for something to do - an internet search proved useless.  Movies were out because we couldn’t agree on a movie.  Mini-golf, amusement parks, and the beach were out of the question because of the heat and humidity, and let’s be honest, the expense.  We wound up at the mall, killing time until dinner - noone bought anything at the mall.  We’re all in our twenties, and noone wanted to spend any money if we could help it…  Yet, we called some more family, and wound up joining them at their invitation to eat out at one of those restaurants with all the kitschy stuff on the walls and mozzarella sticks in the appetizer menu.   We had a great time -good food, good conversation.  Luckily for us, we didn’t have to pay for anything - on the low, our uncle picked up the check.  Whew.  I had been considering doing that myself, and paying with plastic, to be paid off in September.  But the check came and was paid when we were deep in conversation and not paying attention.  That was so sweet.  For all the running around, my cousin paid for half my gas.  We checked out a club afterwards that I’d looked up beforehand on the ‘net - there was no cover and there was good music, but the place had the wrong atmosphere, so we left.  And I ate at the folks’ house for all my other meals.  I messed up my baby’s eggs.  I couldn’t help it, I’m not good with eggs, ‘cause I don’t like them myself…  But anyway, right before we left, the folks took us out to dinner at, where else, the buffet.

It was a nice little excursion from Friday night to Sunday.  Total damage:  About $38 for the trip’s expenses, and $27 for gifts I brought with me.

Sistah Ant can get it in for less, okay?  But how would this trip have been different if I had more money?

A rental car.  More gifts for everyone.  A hotel room so I wouldn’t have had to sleep without my boyfriend (we can’t sleep in the same place at the folks’ house, since we’re not married yet).  I would’ve taken everyone out to breakfast (and my dear would have had better eggs).

Funny thing though - I still had a good time.  I don’t think it would have been that much different…
