another month down

August 1, 2007

I’m not completely pleased with this month’s progress, but I think I did a good job.

Great things:

I passed the $1,000.00 mark in my ING account.   I haven’t racked up any credit card interest, having paid my small balance in its grace period.   I increased my net worth by $740.00.   I decreased my expenses by trimming my cell phone bill.  I only went without brown bagging for lunch maybe about 2 or 3 times this month.  And I did a good job of anticipating and budgeting for reasonably expectable expenses.

Not-so-great things:

I spent over $200.00 on a cell phone handset that I didn’t anticipate having to buy, which gives me a bill for August that I wouldn’t otherwise have.  Having to pay this bill will alter my debt repayment schedule.  I spent more on groceries than I budgeted for - someone I love, I’ll not name names, wasted food and I had to get more.  I shop with my boyfriend and we buy groceries for our apartments every week.  I hate going every week - there’s temptation four times a month to spend more money, walking past all that food.  I’d rather go twice a month.  I’m trying to get him to make the adjustment.  But this is a minor issue.  I’m still good at setting an amount to spend and sticking to it - I don’t splurge just ‘cause I’m at the grocery store, but I do feel more tempted, so I’d rather not go.

If you want to see how I did with debt repayment and savings, go ahead and check out my numbers by clicking on "Net Worth" over my net worth progress bar, and as always, suggestions are welcome.  I feel like I have so far to go, but I’m so encouraged to see any amount of progress, knowing how hard I’m working.
