one more goal
I almost forgot to mention one of my goals. One of these days I’m going to get married - we’ve already discussed it a lot. And I refuse to go into debt to make it happen. So far as I’m concerned we could elope… but then we’d think of our parents and my grandmother and nix that whole plan altogether. Then there’s the destination wedding. Given the very possible need for folks to have passports by the time we’re ready, and given the fact that neither my parents or my grandmother fly, take cruises, or have passports, nix that idea too.
So I think what I’m looking at is the prospect of finding a place and feeding people. I have dozens - a host - of family members, friends, and sorority sisters, plus his small family and select friends to consider inviting. And to be honest, whenever I think of stuff like "x dollars per plate," or "in-house catering only," I just go back to thinking about eloping. Sheesh.
Once we make it official we are going to have to put money off to the side for this, together. I might as well start saving my contribution now. Why wait until he formally asks and we make an announcement? I might as well start researching cost-cutting measures now, too. Like nixing the party favors noone keeps or treasures. Or doing our own invitations and decorations. Or getting a dress from tar-jay. (Yeah, I said it. They don’t have one dress over $200, and I don’t see why a dress I wear only once should cost any more than that.) Or finding a way to not invite the whole tribe of folks I’ve ever known without insulting anyone.
I’m telling you, there’s more stuff to save for than a little bit! (Is that a Southern expression? I got that from my dad.)
