a little company, please
*sigh*
I know I shouldn’t compare myself to anyone else, but for goodness’ sake! Why does every single personal finance blogger I’ve found so far have a positive net worth? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t begrudge them the fruits of their diligence. But it would be nice to have some company down here in this negative net worth pit, so I wouldn’t feel like I was the only person ever to get into this much debt - so that I wouldn’t feel like I am the only person looking at zero as a goal.
Maybe, when I’m on the positive side, I’ll put a net worth progress bar up, starting not at zero, but at my November 2006 position, just so that negative net worth people who come to my site will gain some assurance from the fact that I didn’t start out positive either. Matter of fact, why don’t I just do that today? Matter of fact, I will have!

Don’t feel bad honey. My net worth was NEGATIVE when I first started. Check out some of my earlier posts (Dec ‘05). There are a few bloggers who post their negative net worth too. Although I’m sure there are a lot more that don’t because they are ashamed to admit it.
Keep ya head up sis! Dedication and patience will get you in there no time.

Ugh! I posted a lengthy comment and that darn validation thing made it disappear!!
Anyhoo, I had a negative net worth when I first started. Check out my earlier posts.
Keep ya head up. Dedication and patience will get you there in no time!

Hello,
Just found your sight through Single Ma’s site. I’m thinking about starting a personal finance blog too and I will be right there with you on the negative net worth. Even more than you. So consider yourself and inspiration to others. Keep up the great work!!

I most certainly have a negative net worth and probably will for some time. The reason a lot of people have a positive net worth is b/c they include their home equity into the calculation. That’s not something I will ever do unless the house is paid-in-full. Equity is not cash-in-hand (so to speak) so it shouldn’t be counted, imo.

you know, some people balance out that home equity in their net worth calculations with their mortgage debt, like how i did with my car in my net worth calculation. i like it that way - it helps me to see the whole picture better.

I know my networth is negative. I do not have the exact figure. My focus is now paying off debt as fast as I can.
